NVIDIA Titan X Powers Games and Virtual Reality

March 5, 2015 by Rob Farber Leave a Comment

NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang announced NVIDIA’s latest GPU, the Titan X, in a surprise appearance at the 2015 Game Developers Conference. Jen-Hsun claims it is the most powerful GPU on the planet. The announcement followed a presentation by Epic Games’ co-founder Tim Sweeney  about the convergence of photorealistic imagery, film, video games, architecture, industrial design, and virtual reality. “This GDC,” said Huang, “is all about VR”, a statement that reflects trends in the industry as VR headsets are poised to become the media consumption device of the future for computers, movies, and gaming. See more about the many VR headset offerings here.

NVIDIA was coy about disclosing the specifications of the Titan X, which are expected to be announced at GTC 2015.

The following demo shows Epic’s latest demo “Kite” running on the NVIDIA TITAN X in real time!

In a move that signals the growth of a cottage industry of gaming companies and VR shops, Epic announce that the Unreal 4 game engine is free.  Basically, if you sell a product using this engine, you pay a 5% royalty. The tagline is “we succeed when you succeed”.
